Dickison Shines at Nashua: Captures Her First NH Women's Mid-Amateur Title

Concord, NH – Amy Dickison was dialed in and ready to capture her first New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur title as she stepped up to the first tee at Nashua Country Club for the final round of the tournament.  She held a four-shot lead entering the final round and finished, trophy in hand, with a five shot cushion after firing a 75 (+3) to finish at four-over par for the tournament.

Dickison’s opening nine was steady and consistent, as she played during the first round of the competition.  She carded two bogeys but was able to roll in two birdie putts to balance those out and make the turn at even par.  By the time she made the turn, she extended her lead to five strokes as Bordeau had a one-over par front nine and Daley slipped down away with a three-over par front nine.

“I suffer from nerves a lot so sometimes my putting can get a little squirrelly”, commented Dickison after her win.  “I did better today, I’ve had worse second rounds, but I was trying to focus, keep it together and play my game.”

Heading to the back nine, Dickison carded another birdie on the par-4, 10th hole to get to even par for the tournament and one-under par on the day.  She ran into a couple more bogeys on the back nine but was still able to maintain her lead throughout the back nine as those closest to her on the leaderboard also found bogey trouble.  At the end of the day, Dickison fired a 75 (+3) to finish at four-over par for the tournament and to capture her first New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur title.

With the nerves behind her, Dickison commented on the keys to her success this week, stating, “I think it was my solid ball striking and I genuinely putted really well.  Overall, other than when I was nervous, my putting was pretty solid.”

Defending champion, Kat Bordeau ended in the third place after carding 79 (+7) in the final round of the tournament.  With an opening round 77 (+5), Bordeau was looking to close the four-shot gap between her and Dickison.  She started strong and even got a shot back on Dickison after the 4th hole where Dickison carded bogey and Bordeau made a steady par, but Dickison made birdie on the 6th hole to get her lead back and then extended it as Bordeau bogeyed the 7th hole.

Bordeau continued to find some trouble on the back nine which allowed Dickison to comfortably extend her lead by another shot.  Meanwhile, Sarah Daley ran into trouble on the front nine, but held strong on the back nine to make her charge up the leaderboard.  Daley played the best second round back nine of the three competitors and was able to get herself into second place, passing Bordeau on the back nine.  While Daley did improve on her first round score of 77 (+5) by one stroke, she came up shy of catching Dickison in the final round.  With her 77-76, Daley earned runner-up honors and leaves with some confidence after a solid second round of play.

With this win under her belt, Dickison now adds to the Senior titles she has captured of the last few years.  With a big smile on her face, she stated, “It’s an honor, it’s the first one I played in.  It’s great.”

The New Hampshire Golf Association would like to thank Nashua Country Club for hosting this event.  While the course got hit with a lot of rain from the storms, the maintenance crew worked hard to make sure the course remained in great condition for the competition.
