Fennessy Looks to Defend Her NH Women's Amateur Title at Rochester
Rochester, NH – With the New Hampshire Women’s Amateur Championship presented by Vigilant Wealth Management approaching, all eyes look to Carys Fennessy to capture her second-straight title. The New Hampshire Women’s Amateur is a three-day, 54-hole championship event boasting some of the top female amateur golfers in the state. This year the championship will be contested at Rochester Country Club, which is expected to play at about 5,600 yards. The winner at the end of the tournament will have their name go down in history among some of New Hampshire’s greats.
Last year’s champion, Carys Fennessy, is ready to tee it up at Rochester Country Club for another chance at claiming the trophy. Fennessy already has one big championship under belt as she won the New England Women’s Amateur Championship held last month at Samoset Resort in Maine by rolling in a birdie putt on the first playoff hole. Not only that, but Fennessy has consistently been a standout player for Dover High School and will take her talents to the College of Charleston in 2025 to compete at the Division I level.
Fennessy is not the only past champion in the field next week, she is joined by Julianna Megan and Dana Harrity, all competing for the title. Megan, now a college golfer at Holy Cross, won this tournament in 2022 at Concord Country Club and finished runner-up to Fennessy last year at Montcalm Golf Club. Another top contender in the field next week is Amy Dickison who most recently won the New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur title at Nashua Country Club and looks to continue that momentum at Rochester.
Along with Megan, there are four additional New Hampshire native college golfers set to make their run at the top spot next week. Nicole Butkus (St. Anselm’s), Eva Gonzales (Merrimack), Delaney Nadeau (Monmouth), and Lydia Tufts (St. Anselm’s) are set to represent their schools with pride at the New Hampshire Women’s Amateur. While there are college golfers in the field, this year’s youngest competitors include two 15-year-olds who have been staples of the NHGA Junior Tour, Mady Savary and Madelyn Giampa. It will be an exciting week watching these junior golfers compete among the top in the state.
2024 marks the sixth time that Rochester Country Club has played host to this championship event. It will play at around 5,600 yards, providing a true test of golf for the women with the challenging greens and varying terrain, not always offering a flat stance. Shot placement will be important on many of the holes and the person able to manage their game best at Rochester will ultimately be crowned the champion. The golfer claiming the title will have their name go down in history alongside New Hampshire Golf Hall of Famers, including Jane Blalock, Pat Bradley, Tina Tombs, Dana Harrity and Laura Shanahan Rowe.
The competition will get underway at Rochester Country Club at 7:30am on Monday, July 29th.
