Dickison's One-Over Par Opening Round Leads NH Women's Mid-Amateur at Nashua
Concord, NH – It was another scorcher today as the first round of the New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship got underway. A golfer who often finds their name among the top competitors, Amy Dickison, leads the way by four shots with an opening round 73 (+1). Two golfers trail Dickison by four shots including Sarah Daley and defending New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, Kat Bordeau. As the field prepares for the second and final round of the competition, everyone has their eyes on Dickison and trying to track her down.
Dickison’s first round did not necessarily start as planned when she bogeyed the opening hole at Nashua Country Club. However, she was able to bounce back quickly with a birdie on the par 5, second hole. From there, she carded just one additional bogey on the front nine and remained consistent with pars on all the other holes to make the turn at one-over par, in a great position heading to the back nine.
She was able to get back to even par for her round when she rolled in another birdie putt on the par 4, 12th hole at Nashua. She remained consistent with her game on the back nine, only running into bogey trouble on one more hole, the par 4, uphill 16th hole. She played the back nine at even par and finished up her round with a 73 (+1).
After the round, Dickson talked about the keys to success in the first round, saying, “I was pretty much keeping it out of trouble, and I putted well.”
Her putter was working well for her in round one, which is evident with the two birdies and numerous par putts she made. She hopes to keep the putter rolling into the final round of the tournament and hopes to maintain her lead with 18 holes left to play.
On the flip side of it, Dickison talks about some of the challenges she ran into, mentioning that Nashua’s closing four holes can be tough if you don’t play them right. She stated, “You have to hit good tees shots and one of them I messed up a little bit. I’m going to be using a different strategy tomorrow, you don’t always need the driver.”
With a few tweaks to her gameplay in mind for the final round, Dickison looks to fend off some strong competitors that sit behind her on the leaderboard. One of those competitors is Sarah Daley, who rolled in three birdie putts throughout her round, the most of any other competitor in the field. With a 77 (+5) in the first round, Daley will look to improve on her opening round, including the opening four holes where she recorded four-straight bogeys. Taking those four holes out of play, she would be right beside Dickison on the leaderboard.
Defending New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, Kat Bordeau is also four shots back of Dickison with an opening round 77 (+5). Bordeau had a steady and consistent round but found some bogey trouble on the front nine with back-to-back bogeys on Nashua’s 3rd and 4th holes and double bogeyed the 9th hole. Although she didn’t find her first birdie until the par-3, 14th hole, which can be an intimidating water hole for many, she played a strong back nine to stay only four shots back of the lead with one more round to go.
The field now prepares for the final round of the New Hampshire Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Nashua Country Club to decide this year’s champion.
