Savary & Suprenant Capture New Hampshire Junior Amateur Titles
Bretton Woods, NH – The New Hampshire Junior Amateur Championship has come to a close and new champions have been crowned as the field took on Cochecho Country Club and Mount Washington Resort Golf Club over the last three days. Mady Savary captured the New Hampshire Girls Junior title finishing at 10-over par across the 54-hole event and Andrew Suprenant has won the New Hampshire Boys Junior title, along with a trip to the U.S. Junior Amateur, after finishing at two-under par across all three days.
After the first round of the competition, held at Cochecho Country Club, Savary and Suprenant each held the lead in their respective divisions. Savary ended up tied for the lead with Teagan Nadeau after they both fired rounds of three-over par, 77. Surprenant held the solo lead after his even-par round of 70 at Cochecho. The field then headed up to Mount Washington Resort for the final 36 holes of the tournament.
Savary began to extend her lead after the second round of the tournament where she shot a four-over par round of 76. While Teagan Nadeau began to slip down the leaderboard, her sister Delaney Nadeau climbed into second place with a 75 (+3), the lowest round of the day for the Girls division of the tournament. It came down to the final round where Savary held a seven-shot lead and just needed to maintain that to claim the title. Starting off with three bogeys after the first four holes was not on the agenda for her, but she held it together and carded two birdies in the middle of the final round to help her score. Despite two more bogeys on her card before ending the day, she held on for a 75 (+3) which ended up being good enough to claim the New Hampshire Girls Junior title.
“Being able to get on the green in regulation and then two putting was something that was really important to me”, stated Savary after her victory. She maintained her game plan well enough to her the title of New Hampshire Girls Junior Champion.
For Surprenant, it was a matter of staying consistent and battling off Will Miele and Sam Maurice who were both able to find red numbers at Mount Washington. After an even-par opening round, Surprenant was able to card consistent and back-to-back 71’s to finish the tournament at two-under par, winning by a margin of three.
"I just try to play for consistency" Surprenant said, "I knew that playing for par or better would probably get it done so that was my goal."
Alongside Surprenant's goal for consistency he added, "I don't think I lost a single ball up here, so being consistent with the tee shots was a huge part of my game that helped". With this win, Suprenant now has a ticket to compete in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship taking place at Oakland Hills Country Club in just a few weeks.
The NHGA would like to extend a sincere thank you to Cochecho Country Club and Mount Washington Resort Golf Club for those this tournament across the last three days. Each course provided a challenge for the top junior golfers in New Hampshire.
