Montcalm's Moment to Shine: Professionals & Amateurs Set to Take on Montcalm GC at NH Open
Enfield, NH – Professionals and amateurs from around the Northeast and the rest of the country are poised to take on Montcalm Golf Club in the 90th playing of the New Hampshire Open Championship. This 54-hole championship is set to begin on Thursday, June 20 and conclude on Saturday, June 22 with the crowning of our 2024 champion. Despite the projected high temperatures, 144 golfers are excited to take on Montcalm Golf Club set in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire.
Montcalm Golf Club boasts 18 holes of quintessential mountain golf, stretching out to 6,800 yards. Tucked away in Enfield, New Hampshire, just off of Interstate 89, Montcalm has scenic views to complement their challenging, championship golf course.
Steve Rogers, Montcalm’s Director of Golf and Head Golf Professional commented, “Our elevated tees and greens and rolling fairways will test all players including the region’s best.”
Along with this year’s New Hampshire Open, Montcalm has played host to several other New Hampshire Golf Association championships, including last year’s New Hampshire Women’s Amateur, along with the 2021 New Hampshire Mid-Amateur, 2020 New Hampshire Stroke Play and 2016 New Hampshire Senior.
Professionals and amateurs from all over will be put the test at Montcalm. NHGA Tournament Director Kinsey Hoffmann stated, “Montcalm joins a long list of premier New Hampshire courses that have hosted the New Hampshire Open Championship. It was a natural fit for Montcalm to host one of the longest running and most prestigious championships in New Hampshire.”
Some of the area’s top competitors will be making an appearance at this year’s championship, including State Amateur Champions from around the Northeast. Golfers like Steven DiLisio (Mass Amateur Champion, 2019), Jared Nelson (Vermont Amateur Champion, 2022), Garren Poirier (Vermont Amateur Champion, 2020), Jackson Wyman (Maine Amateur Champion, 2017 & 2018), Shawn Warren (Maine Amateur Champion, 2006) and past New Hampshire Amateur Champions, Matt Paradis (2018) and Mark Stevens (2008) will all be competing.
While many golfers will be returning to the New Hampshire Open for another go at the title, just one past champion is in the field this week. Jason Thresher, 2018 New Hampshire Open Champion, will tee it up for another chance at the top prize. Thresher won this tournament when it was last held at Stonebridge Country Club, the same year he won his third-straight Mass Open title. He is joined in the field by Brandon Berry who is coming to New Hampshire fresh off his own victory in the Mass Open. Berry finished runner-up in last year’s New Hampshire Open at Bretwood and claimed the Mass Open title just last week with an eagle on the final hole to win by one stroke.
The NHGA is expecting temperatures and scores to heat up this week at Montcalm Golf Club. The New Hampshire Open is a 54-hole individual stroke play championship across three days. The entire field will play 36 holes across the first two days with a cut to the low 40 golfers plus ties for the final round of the competition. A $10,000 check is awarded to the first-place finisher after 54 holes.
