NHGA Junior Tour Kicks off Season with Heighted Excitement at Hoodkroft Junior Open

Derry, NH- What started as a cloudy mid-week morning, turned into an afternoon of hot sun, familiar swings, and the determination to win a play off as the New Hampshire Golf Association (NHGA) Junior Tour kicked off its 2020 season at Hoodkroft Country Club for the annual Hoodkroft Junior Open.
The Eagle A Boys division, ages 16-18, had five players sitting a top of the leader board tied for first place at the end of the round, sending them into a playoff for the top spot. Gunnar Senatore (Amherst CC), Brian Adams (Breakfast Hill CC), Jeremy Burke (Hoodkroft CC), Thomas Hickey (Ridgewood CC), and Elliot Wallace (Manchester CC) all shot a three over par, 75 to land a spot in the playoff. With sights set on the win, Gunnar Senatore birdied the first playoff hole to capture the title for the Eagle A division.  As the playoff marched on, Adams rolled in his par putt on the 2nd play off hole, with Hickey and Burked tied for third place. 
In the Eagle B Boys division, ages 13-15, Ben Dougherty (North Conway CC) took the Champion title with his score of two under par, 70, beating out his closest opponent by eleven strokes.  Dougherty carded an impressive 7 birdies throughout his round, 5 of them being on the back nine to help him claim his victory spot on the leader board. 
In the Eagle Girls division, ages 14-18, two players found themselves in the second playoff of the day. Carys Fennessy (Cochecho CC) and Juliana Megan (Youth on Course) both had solid rounds of seven over par, 79.  The two girls both carded important birdies during their round to keep them at the top As they began their march down the first play off hole, Juliana ended things quickly rolled in her par putt to take the division champion title.  
The Birdie division, up to age 13 for girls, and up to age 12 for boys, two more champions were crowned. In the Birdie Girls division, Taylor Barry (Nashua CC) took the title. She carded a ten over par, 46 for 9 holes, and two important pars to beat out her closest opponent by three strokes. In the Birdie Boys division, Maddox Ketelaar was able to obtain the division title with his score of two over par, 38 for 9 holes. With an impressive round with only one double bogey, he was able to hold onto a 3 stroke lead for the win.

About the NHGA Junior Golf Tour
Founded in 1998, the NHGA has strived to create a junior program that creates playing opportunities for players of all skill levels and abilities. The program is structured to provide opportunities for junior golf development through fair competition, while encouraging proper course etiquette and good sportsmanship through playing and enjoying the game of golf.  The Junior Tour is open to girls and boys up to the age of 18 and is broken down into two divisions, the Birdie and Eagle divisions.  The NHGA Junior Golf Tour is sponsored by the Thorpe Family Foundation.
