Wilson Repeats at Mid-Amateur
Author: Wayne Mills
September 26th 2014 - TILTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE-Brett Wilson has won the New Hampshire Mid-Amateur Championship for the second consecutive year by completing a wire to wire victory on Thursday at Lochmere Golf and Country Club.

Wilson’s one over par 73 was good enough for a four shot margin over second place finisher Peter Keilty. His final hole birdie at the par 5-18th got him to one under par for the 54 hole event- the only one in the field to finish in red numbers.

Starting the final round with a two shot lead over Keilty and paired with him, Wilson extended his lead with birdies at the second and fourth holes.
"I got off to a real good start. That calmed me down right there,” he said after the round. “I was trying to just focus on each shot but I also knew where I stood."

A bogey at the par 5-seventh set him back but he recovered right away by birdying the par 3-eighth. He then made par at the ninth to take a four shot lead into the final nine holes.

Wilson made things interesting for awhile when he double bogeyed the 10th hole after hitting his approach into a green front hazard.
There was a two shot swing at the 14th when Keilty birdied and Wilson bogeyed and it looked like another at the 15th when Wilson ran his first putt past the hole by eight feet and Keilty was in close but Wilson made the comebacker and Keilty didn’t convert his birdie putt.

"That was a big putt right there," said Wilson of his par save. "And when Peter missed his putt I felt I would be okay."

After a routine par at the 17th Wilson went to the 18th with a three shot lead. He ripped two three woods to the front of the green, rolled a putt six feet past the hole and made it  coming back to put a fitting ending to a dominant performance.

Jim Cilley and David Larrivee shared third place at 5 over par while Dan Arvanitis and Sean Lacey tied at 6 over for the week. Lacey had the only sub-par round on Thursday, a 1 under 71.

Craig Steckowych, Bob Landry and Josh Champberlain finished 7-9 while Howard Cullen of the host club tied for tenth with Brian Nowak.
