Qualifiers Set at Boy's Junior

DERRY, NEW HAMPSHIRE - The first round of the New Hampshire Golf Associationís Junior Championship was played under perfect summer conditions at Campbellís Scottish Highlands Golf Club on Monday, June 23rd.

A full complement of 64 of the stateís best juniors was vying for spots in the championship division and for five spots in the State Amateur in the medal play first round.

Sixteen qualified for the championship match play with the remaining 48 playing off in five flights.

Brandon Gillis of Souhegan Woods Golf Club was the medalist in the morning firing a three under par 68, the only golfer in the field to finish in red numbers.

James McKee of Windham Golf Club shot an even par 71 to tie defending champion Tom Hixon of Wentworth by the Sea for second place.

Jeremy Duhamel and Alex von Svoboda each shot one over 72ís to tie for fourth place followed by Lukas Linemayr and Roman Ojala at 73.

Ojala of Bretwood Golf Club in Keene led a large contingent of Monadnock  Region golfers who made the championship flight. He was joined by Keeton Foster (T8) of Pine Grove Springs Golf Club in Spofford and fellow Bretwood members Jack Nadeau and Macky Seppala (T14).

Also making the cut were John Cook, Doug Champagne, Eric Evans, Ryan McGuirk, Sam Nielson, and Tyler Cole.
Duhamel, Ojala, Linemayr, Foster, Nielson and McGuirk also simultaneously qualified for the New Hampshire Amateur Championship.

The highlight of the morning round was a hole-in-one by sixteen year old Nicholas Correia of Laconia Country Club. Playing the 187 yard seventh hole Correia  said "I pinched a 6 iron and it looks really good so Iím thinking easy birdie and then it just toppled in. Iím thinking- this is awesome.Ē  The ace was the first of his golf career.
