NHGA Junior Tour Thriving With Continued Support From Thorpe Family Foundation
Author: Kate Kellar
April 13th 2018 - Concord, NH –   The New Hampshire Golf Association (NHGA) Junior Golf Tour has been evolving over the last few years in large part due to the generosity of the Thorpe Family Foundation.  Steve and Marjorie Thorpe have been supporters of the NHGA Junior Tour since 2015 by sponsoring the Junior Tour and in 2016 they began sponsoring the NHGA Junior Tour Scholarship.  The Thorpe Family Foundation will continue it’s support of the NHGA Junior Tour and Junior Tour Scholarship in the 2018 season.

The NHGA recently hired Kinsey Hoffmann as the Director of Junior Golf and Tournament Operations with her primary focus on growing the Junior Tour and providing more playing opportunities for junior golfers in the Granite State.  Kinsey brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as she previously worked with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and the Texas Golf Association.

“I am eager to get the season started and see where it can go,” said Hoffmann. “I hope the players are as excited about what’s going on with the Junior Tour as I am. I think we have made some great additions to the schedule that will draw in more golfers from around the state and continue to grow the program.”

This season, junior golfers and parents can expect to see a larger schedule for the Junior Tour along with different formats of play to give junior golfers experience with other forms of competition in golf.  While most of the events will remain individual stroke play competitions, two of the new events added to this year’s schedule are the Junior Four Ball and Junior Stableford tournaments.

As an additional change to the NHGA Junior Tour, Birdie and Eagle divisions will now be competing at the same sites on the same days.  Birdie division golfers are boys up to the age of 12 and girls up to the age of 13; this division plays 9-hole competitions.  Eagle divisions golfers are boys ages 13-18 and girls ages 14-18; this division plays 18-hole competitions.

Through the continued generosity of Steve and Marjorie Thorpe, graduates of the NHGA Junior Tour who are attending college in the fall are welcome to apply for the NHGA Junior Tour Scholarship.  Previous recipients of the scholarship include Hunter Drew (Bretwood GC) and Dawson Campbell (Newport CC).

The NHGA Junior Tour schedule has been released and registration for events is open.  Any player wishing to participate in the Junior Tour must register for a Junior Tour Membership and will receive a personalized bag tag, sleeve of golf balls, and golf towel.

About the NHGA Junior Golf Tour Scholarship
Since 2016, the NHGA has been able to award a scholarship to an alumnus of the Junior Tour that is attending college.  The Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Thorpe Family Foundation.  Steve Thorpe has been a proud supporter of the NHGA Junior Tour in the past through his company, Adaptive Communications.  Candidates for the scholarship should demonstrate talent in the classroom and ethics on the golf course.  More information on the scholarship and how to apply can be found here: http://www.nhgolfassociation.org/scholarship.html
