Mount Washington Resort GC to Host 2017 Tri-States
May 26th 2017 - Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Golf Association announced the site for the 2017 Tri-States Championship earlier this afternoon. Mount Washington Resort Golf Club will be hosting the 77th playing of the Northern New England annual tournament.

Mt. Washington Resort GC last hosted an NHGA Championship in 2015 when they hosted the 112th New Hampshire Amateur Championship, won by Connor Greenleaf. New Hampshire has won the last three Tri-States Championships with a win in each of the three host states.

NHGA Executive Director, Matt Schmidt, shared his excitement on the event and host site earlier today: “Mt. Washington Resort GC is an incredible Donald Ross layout that sits in one of the most scenic areas in New England. The course in mid-September should be an absolute treat for the players from all three states. I’d like to thank the staff at Omni Mount Washington Resort for their continued support of golf in the Granite State, especially Director of Golf, Vince Runyon.”

NHGA Tournament Director Greg Howell spoke about the golf course and the potential for match play setup: “The 7,000 yard layout provides plenty of opportunities for a creative setup of tees and hole locations. We can move tees around each day to make for some interesting Match Play decisions that should increase the experience for the players on all three teams.”

The annual Tri-State Championship began in 1935 when teams from Vermont and Maine were invited to the Granite State to compete in the 36-hole match play event. New Hampshire hosted the inaugural tournament and captured the first title. Since that time, New Hampshire has dominated with 43 wins in 75 years. Recent New Hampshire hosts have been Portsmouth Country Club (2011) and Concord Country Club (2014).

Team NH is selected based off a season-long point list, with the top-8 regular players, and top-3 senior players earning automatic spots. Two captains picks in the regular division and one for the senior round out the team.

Players interested in earning points for the Tri-State Team Standings can visit the NHGA Points and Standings Page to discover the points for each NHGA event. Beginning in 2017, the NHGA added the Stroke Play series, four event designed to give the top amateurs in the state additional opportunities to earn Tri-State points. The Innagural event was held at Green Meadow GC on May 25th and was won by Jim Cilley and Allen Pattee in the regular and senior divisions respectively.
