Author: Kate Kellar
June 27th 2016 - Concord, NH –   James McKee of Windham Country Club grabbed the medalist honors this morning in the 18-hole stroke play qualifying round at Concord Country to earn the number one seed in the Championship Flight at the 2016 Junior Championship.
McKee, who won this event just two years ago, went up against Dan Pleva, also of Windham Country Club, in the Round of 16, defeating him 5 & 4.  McKee will face Zach Wheeler of Manchester Country Club in the Quarterfinals Tuesday morning.
Taking the number two seed was Brandon Gillis, Souhegan Woods Golf Club, with a score of two-over, 72.  Gillis, 2015 Junior Champion and a recent qualifier of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, defeated Nicholas Grimbilas 3 & 2 in his first match of the championship.  With much more golf to be played, Gillis and McKee have their eyes set on the prize—a second State Junior Championship victory.
The flights 1-5 champions will be decided on Tuesday.  The winner of flight 6 is Nick Nadeau, 5 & 4 over Asa Dupuis.
The 75th Boys State Junior Championship, being held at Concord Country Club, brings together the top junior players from around the State to compete in 18 hole of stroke play qualifying to advance to match play round in their respective flights.
