Leavitt Leads New England Amateur After Two Rounds
Author: Greg Howell
July 22nd 2015 -
Newbury, NH – Joe Leavitt (Atkinson CC) finished the final match Saturday afternoon with a loss he said was “one he would remember for a very long time.” It clearly was not something he was worried about on Wednesday at Baker Hill Golf Club. The two-time New Hampshire Amateur Champion and 2014 Player’s Invitational Champion shot a 5-under sixty-seven to take a two-shot lead over Brian Carlson from Connecticut.

Leavitt, when asked about playing the tournament just days after a six-day stretch of golf at Mount Washington for the New Hampshire Amateur, “I’m definitely a little drained but I just love this game Its all I do so I am definitely looking forward to it and I am in a great spot and it’s a great position to be in going into tomorrow.”

Leavitt made a forty foot birdie putt on the 8th hole, which was his second to last hole. He was playing great well before the 8th hole.

“I was hitting it pretty close all day. The other birdies were tap-in or within ten feet. After today I am feeling really good about tomorrow.”

Nine other New Hampshire Players made the cut including 2015 Amateur Champion Connor Greenleaf (Windham CC) who is tied for sixth place. Chris Houston (Laconia CC)  is tied for 3rd place and is three shots back.
