Everett Leads After Round One As Only Player Under Par
Author: Kate Kellar
September 6th 2016 - Enfield, NH –  Bill Everett (Laconia Country Club) fired three-under par in the first round of the Senior Championship being played at Montcalm Golf Club.  Everett finished the day as the only player, out of 80 participants, to card an under-par round.  Following close behind him at even-par, is four-time Senior Champion, Phil Pleat from Nashua Country Club.
Everett recorded a near-perfect round, ending up with one bogey on his card and four birdies.  With three birdies in his first six holes, Everett shot two-under, 34 on the front nine.  Staying consistent, his back nine was made up of eight pars and one birdie that came on the 14th hole.  Sitting on the lead going into the final 18 holes, Everett will look to capitalize on his strong showing in the first round.
Pleat placed himself in second place with an even-par round after putting five birdies and five bogeys on the card.  He birdied two of his last three holes which should provide a little momentum as his enters the final round.  Defending champion, Bob Mielcarz found a little trouble on the course and finished his round at seven-over par, 79.
Jim Cardoso (Sky Meadow Country Club) leads the Pre-Senior Division of the Senior Championship with five-over par, 77.  Pete DesJardins (Atkinson Country Club) follows close behind at 79 and Joel Silverwatch (Windham Country Club) rounds out the top three of the Pre-Senior Division at 81.
With Montcalm Golf Club playing at around 6,300 yards, it was a tough test for the field.  Many players will be looking to use their knowledge from the first round to string together a low final round.  Final round tee times will run from 8:30AM to 10:09AM, with the leaders teeing off last.
The Senior Championship is a two-day, 36-hole individual stroke play event.  This year the event is being played at Montcalm Golf Club in Enfield, NH.   Players aged 45-54 compete in the Pre-Senior Division, while players ages 55 and over compete in the Championship Division.
