Drew Makes History, As New Golfers Emerge as Junior Tour Players of the Year
Author: Maggie McGovern
August 29th 2017 - The summer is at an end, school is about to start back up, but the NHGA Junior Tour players had time to play one last round this summer at Keene Country Club. On August 11th, the top 25 players from across the divisions met to finish out another fantastic season of New Hampshire junior golf. The top 25 players worked all summer to earn a spot in the Junior Invitational, where Gunnar Senatore led the way with a 76 on the challenging Keene course.  The conclusion of the event signaled the end to the golf season for the Junior tour, but there is certainly a lot to be celebrated this year!

The season started off at the annual Hoodkroft Open, where players from all the division came together to play. Defending players of the year, Hunter Drew and CJ LaDue set the pace for the season, shooting a 78 and 75 respectively to win the event. Both Drew and LaDue made a run at defending their titles, but were outdone in the end. This year’s Players of the Year are Nicholas Fairneny (Eagle A Boys), Bryce Zimmerman (Eagle B Boys), Hannah Drew (Eagle Girls), Myles O’Quinn (Birdie Boys), and Kaylee Lintner (Birdie Girls). Congratulations to all the NHGA Junior Tour Players of the Year.

Nicholas Fairneny- Of the eight Junior Tour events that Fairneny played in this summer he was only out of the top 5 one time. He showed true consistency by continually coming in at the top of the leaderboard. The highlights of the season for Fairneny came at  Windham Country Club, where he shot a 78, landing him in first place, and at the Junior Invitational at Keene where he finished in second to secure the Player of the Year honor. Next year Nicholas will be attending Methodist University in North Carolina where he will enter the Professional Golf Management Program.

Bryce Zimmerman- After a mid-season injury to last season’s Player of the Year, CJ LaDue, the door was wide open for Zimmerman to claim the top spot. He certainly took advantage amassing 560 total points. He accomplished this feat by coming in the top 3 of every Junior Tour competition he entered this summer, including wins at Newport, Beaver Meadow, and Windham. This is the second time Zimmerman has been awarded the Player of the Year honor, he won the Birdie Boys division in 2015. In addition to his success on the Junior Tour, the young hitter from Nashua also competed at the 114th New Hampshire Amateur Championship and the Stroke Play championship, making the cut on both occasions.

Hannah Drew- This season brought more dominance for Keene’s Hannah Drew, as she won her 3rd straight Junior Player of the Year award, making her the only junior to win three straight Player of the Year awards. Once again, Drew controlled the golf course and the field in every event she entered. She won all five of the events she entered this summer, and even had the lowest score of any competitor at Derryfield Country Club. Drew will return next year for her last chance to defend her title before heading off to college.

Myles O’Quinn- O’Quinn’s performance this summer surly made a lasting impression, as he showed off his potential to be a competitor for years to come. He finished in either first or second in all seven of his starts, including impressive performances at Whip-Poor-Will and Londonderry, where he went +4 and +3 respectively. Next year O’Quinn will be moving up to the Eagle B division where he will be competing for top finishes.

Kaylee Lintner – It was a busy summer of golf for Kaylee Lintner of Walpole, as she competed in both Birdie and Eagle events, finding herself at the top of leaderboard in both divisions. Over the course of the summer Lintner competed in seven different events, including two victories, and five second place finishes. Her summer came to end with a victory at the Junior invitational, securing her the Birdie Player of the Year.

A big thank you to all the NHGA member clubs that hosted Junior Tour events this year, we appreciate your continued support. We also want to sincerely thank the Thorpe Family Foundation for all that they do for junior golf in the state of New Hampshire; this tour would not be possible without their generosity.
