Consistency From Salo Lands Him Atop Stroke Play Field
Author: Kate Kellar
August 9th 2016 - Concord, NH –  Cam Salo of Bretwood Golf Club finds himself leading the way after the second round of the NHGA Stroke Play Championship at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.  Salo not only leads the field in strokes, he also leads the way in consistency as he fired 72-72.  Nate Choukas, round one leader, put a few bogeys on his card today and ended up with 76 for his second round; that puts him just one back from Salo.  Jim Cilley and Mike Martel also find themselves one shot off the lead, with a two-day total of 145.
With the leader sitting at even-par, Beaver Meadow is proving to be a tougher test than most expected.  Laconia Country Club member, Dan Doyle brought some excitement to his round by acing the 156 yard, third hole.  Doyle finished his round at two-under par, 70 to solidify his spot in the next round.  The second round’s low score came from Damon Salo who put up eight birdies on his way to five-under, 67.
In the previous five years of the Stroke Play Championship the winner finished at a total of at least 6-under.  This year’s leaders have some work to do to reach that milestone.  Regardless, the 41 players advancing on to Wednesday will be playing 36 holes to determine the winner.  In the event there is a tie after 72 holes, there will be a hole-by-hole, sudden death playoff to crown a champion.
The NHGA Stroke Play Championship is a 72-hole stroke play event. Held over three days, players play 36-holes before a cut is made to the low 40 players and ties. Those making the cut will play 36-holes in the final round. The event debuted in the year 2000 and this is the first time that Beaver Meadow has hosted the Championship.
