Brown Makes a Statement in Stroke & Match Play at State Junior
Author: Kate Kellar
June 27th 2017 - Goffstown, NH –   After firing a four-under, 68 in the opening stroke play round at Stonebridge Country Club for the 2017 Junior Championship, Jack Brown (Nashua Country Club) earned the number one seed in the Championship flight bracket.  He faced Kyle Pelletier (Carter Country Club) in his first match, defeating him 8 & 6.
Brown, with Brandon Gillis (past New Hampshire Junior Champion) on the bag for the day, found himself sitting at the top of the leaderboard after nine holes in the stroke playing qualifying round.  Stonebridge’s front nine proved no match for him as he turned at five-under par.  He slipped just one shot on the back and finished at four-under.  In similar fashion, he made the turn in his afternoon match 5 UP to Pelletier.
With storm clouds skirting right around Goffstown for most of the day, all but one match was completed in day one.  The Ethier/ Pleva match in the Championship Flight needed extra holes and the weather didn’t hold off long enough.  Dylan Lortie (The Overlook) upset Eric Evans (Portsmouth CC) 1 UP on the 18th hole and Nicholas Grimbilas (Portsmouth CC) ousted Griffin Chenard (Breakfast Hill GC) after 19 holes.
Other number one seeds for the day include CJ LaDue (First Flight), Ryan Rothdiener (Second Flight), Stoughton Bell (Third Flight), Jonathon Collete (Fourth Flight), and Anthony Andronaco (Fifth Flight).  LaDue was in a playoff to attempt to earn the 16th seed in the Championship, but faltered a little and caught the top seed of the First Flight.
More excitement is still to come in the next day of the New Hampshire Boys Junior Championship.  All flights except the Championship Flight will conclude on Wednesday, with the Championship match being decided on Thursday.
The 2017 Boys State Junior Championship sponsored by Junior Golf Hub, being held at Stonebridge Country Club, brings together the top junior players from around the State to compete in 18 hole of stroke play qualifying to advance to match play round in their respective flights.
