And Then There Were Eight

GOFFSTOWN, NEW HAMPSHIRE - At the end of another long two round day at the New Hampshire Amateur Championship there are now eight men left standing.

The #2 seed, Matt Paradis, the highest seed left in the field, continued his torrid pace in match play by beating Ryan Brogan 6 and 5 in the Round of 16 at Stonebridge Country Club. Paradis hasn't lost a hole in his last 45 missing only two greens in the process.

The 16th seed Joe Leavitt ended the 32nd seed Jamie Ferrulo's long shot dream of winning the title (he had beaten #1 seed Ryan Kohler in the previous round) by taking him down 3 and 2. Leavitt's New Hampshire Amateur match play record is now 16-2.

Nick Pandelena, of Atkinson Resort and Country Club, who shot 6-under par in the first round of stroke play qualifying, made it to the round of eight by beating local favorite Josh Chamberlain by a 1 up score.

Jim Cilley of Pembroke Pines Golf Club ended the reign of defending champion Mike Martel by winning their match 1 up. Cilley will meet Ryan Friel of Souhegan Woods Golf Club who made it in by beating Bob Landry 4 and 2.

Mike Killam of Newport Country Club will face off against Paradis after taking out Matt Levins of Beaver Meadow Golf Club 5 and 3.

Mike Killam's brother Matt lost to Nick MacDonald 3 and 2. MacDonald will face Damon Salo, a winner Chris Durocher 4 and 3.   

Friday is another two round day in the New Hampshire State Amateur.  Player's will compete in both the quarterfinals and semi-finals leading up to Saturday's 36-hole championship finals match.
